EXCLUSIVE: Dario Argento to Remake Deep Red in 3D?

After the mixed, though generally quite positive reviews of Giallo, Argento looks like he is considering remaking what is widely regarded as one of his most acclaimed films: Deep Red. In 3D.

According to an article on Tiscali, Argento has announced plans of a remake inspired by the success of recent films such as 'My Bloody Valentine 3D.' It seems the director is keen to achieve the same experience with a remake of one of his most celebrated movies.
Although he's not entirely sure yet, he's trying to talk to various producers and film distributors about whether or not they might be willing to back the project...

No stranger to confounding the expectations of fans and critics, and always keen to experiment with new technology, Argento was the first filmmaker to utilize CGI in an Italian production, with his distressing and darkly beautiful film, The Stendhal Syndrome.

Needless to say Argento devotees will be watching the development of this proposal with baited breath...

Interesting idea, bad choice of film.
Surely one of the supernatural ones would most benefit from a 3D makeover? Far more scope in Suspiria, for instance.
Plus Deep Red is my favourite and I'd hate to see it monkeyed around with by the guy that made The Card Player...

Oh, hell...please let this be a joke.

I totally agree with Matthew...the Argento of today is a VERY different director than the Argento of "Deep Red." Leave it alone, man...leave it alone!

How could my brother, Billy, be so wrong?! This remake would be a wonderful disaster. It would inevitably be straight to DVD. That means we will be watching a movie that will be filmed in all reds and blues through red/blue 3D glasses. The perspective will be all F'ed up. It will be hysterical!

I don't feel as negative about this as others. No, he's certainly not the same director he was in the 1970s, but this is why a new take on older material would be so intriguing.

It is a bit of an odd choice, I too thought that if anything from Argento's back catelogue would be more appropriate for a 3D make-over, it would be something like Suspiria. Maybe the Hollywood remake threw a spanner in the works? Should be interesting to see if this develops - I will do my best to keep you updated...
